Anchored to pond debris Stentor sp., a large ciliate protozoan, feeds as algal cells swim nearby. Beating cilia that line Stentor's mouth are used to draw in bacteria and other food. Some Stentor species can grow to several millimetres in length, making them among the largest single-celled organisms. | |
