Globular cluster Omega Centauri (NGC 5139), Hubble Space Telescope view. Globular clusters are very old spherical collections of stars that are found orbiting our galaxy, the Milky Way. The core (seen here) of Omega Centauri holds 2 million stars, and there are 10 million stars in the entire cluster, making it among the biggest of some 200 globular clusters orbiting the Milky Way. Omega Centauri is located 17, 000 light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus. | |
