Wolfgang Pauli at 6 years old. Pauli (1900-1958) was an Austrian-Swiss physicist who worked on quantum mechanics. The young Pauli showed early signs of exceptional ability, particularly in mathematics. He attended the Doeblinger Gymnasium, Vienna then in 1918 went to the University of Munich where he received his Doctoral diploma in theoretical physics. Pauli described the exclusion principle now named after him, in 1924. This states that each electron in an atom has a unique set of quantum numbers or quantum state. | |
