Id reaction on the fingers of a Hispanic male patient with athlete's foot. Athlete's foot, or tinea pedis, is a form of ringworm, a disease caused by a fungal infection of the skin. It causes severe itching. The disease is highly contagious, and can be spread by direct contact or by contact with contaminated material. An id, or dermatophytide, reaction, is an allergic rash that is secondary to the ringworm infection and occurs at a different site. Treatment of the id reaction is with topical steroids. Treatment of athlete's foot is with antifungal drugs. | |
