Pompholyx on the foot of a 21 year old male patient. Pompholyx, also called dyshidrotic eczema, affects the hands and feet. It causes very itchy, watery blisters to form on the sides of the fingers, toes, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet. The cause of pompholyx is unknown, although it is more common in adults under 40 and people who have another form of eczema. Common triggers for this condition include allergies to metal compounds, stress, heat, and sweating. This patient is a frequent runner. Pompholyx is usually a long-term condition that comes and goes over time. Avoiding contact with anything that might irritate the skin and adopting a skincare routine is recommended. The main treatments are moisturisers to stop your skin from becoming dry and steroid creams to reduce inflammation. |
