Livedo reticularis on the thighs of a young female patient. Livedo reticularis refers to the mottled appearance of the skin due to a reduction in blood flow to the underlying vessels. The reduction may be due to spasms of the blood vessels, small blood clots, or thickened blood. It is often harmless, but can be a symptom of an underlying condition. Symptoms are often aggravated by cold weather, and some patients also develop ulcers (sores) and nodules (bumps). | |
