Allergy test strips on a patient's back. These strips have had to be placed to avoid the patient's tattoos and a recurrent nevus. On each test strip there are twelve patches (squares), each of which is used to establish sensitivity to a different allergen, such as a medicine, metal or chemical. The strips are left in place for 48 hours. Any sensitivity to an allergen will result in inflamed skin (contact dermatitis) around the corresponding patch. | |
