J. B. S. Haldane, also known as John Burdon Sanderson Haldane (1892–1964), was a British-Indian scientist who made significant contributions to the fields of genetics, evolutionary biology, physiology, and mathematics. In 1910, he shifted his focus to genetics and in 1932, he was the first to estimate the rate of mutation of a human gene. Haldane was known for conducting experiments on himself to study the behaviour of the human body under stress. Later in his life, he renounced his British citizenship, moved to India, became an Indian citizen in 1961, and continued his work there until the end of his life. |
