Wart on the mouth of a 9 year old female patient. Warts are caused by infection with the human papilloma virus (HPV). They present as small, painless growths or bumps on the lips, inside the cheeks or on the tongue. Oral warts can sometimes resolve on their own without intervention. They can be treated using topical medications, cryotherapy or electrosurgery. While treatment can help eliminate visible warts, the HPV virus may still be present in the body and lead to recurrence of warts in the future. | |
