Xanthelasma in a 73 year old male patient. This is a skin condition characterised by yellow growths on or near the eyelids. The growths are formed when fatty deposits develop under the skin. Although the exact cause of xanthelasma is not fully understood, it is believed to be linked to abnormal lipid metabolism or elevated levels of cholesterol and other lipids in the blood. While they do not typically cause discomfort or pain, they can cause concerns about appearance. Treatment options for xanthelasma may include cryotherapy (freezing), surgical removal, or laser therapy. For another image of this patient see SPL code C059/4979. | |
