Appendix. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the wall of the human appendix showing large numbers micro- villi covered absorptive cells. Mucous secretion from goblet cells is also occasionally present. Debris in the appendix lumen is seen at the top of the image. The appendix is a finger-shaped pouch that projects from the colon on the lower right side of the abdomen. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix.
