Patient using a spring-loaded lancet to obtain a blood sample. Finger-prick blood samples are used in a wide range of tests, such as blood glucose or for immunology. The patient presses the end of the lancet against the skin. This builds up pressure in a spring mechanism which triggers at a pre-set point, forcing the lancet forward into the skin and immediately retracting it for safety. | |
