Liver and spleen. False-colour computer enhanced gamma scan (scintigram) of an anterior view of a normal human liver and spleen. The liver is seen at left (red,triangular shape) with the smaller spleen at right. Whereas the liver is concerned largely with metabolism of blood products,the spleen produces blood cells. This scan records the distribution of radiation in the liver and spleen detected by a gamma camera,after the injection of a radioactive tracer (Indium-111). Tracers are chosen for their ability to concentrate in certain body organs,to gather in cancerous or diseased areas,producing hot spots"". Gamma scan sections of the liver and spleen can be examined in slices."
