Polarised light micrograph of the palate of the predatory shelled slug Testucella haliotoidea, sometimes referred to as the ear shelled slug. This is a large yellowish-brown slug with a small rudimentary, nearly triangular, shell located near the tail. Testucella is a genus of predatory subterranean shelled slugs' feeding on earthworms, snails and other slugs. They are rarely seen as they spend most of their time living underground and feeding on earthworms. The palate is has a sharp piercing point and multiple rows of teeth.
