False-colour scintigram (gamma camera scan) of the lungs of an asthmatic person, obtained following the inhalation of a radioactive gas, Xenon-133. The green yellow & white colouring of both lungs is representative of poor ventilation. This pattern in a lung scan might also be found in a subject who is a heavy cigarette smoker.
