Chalicotherium grande, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal was an ungulate that lived from 28 to 4 million years ago, during the Oligocene, Miocene and Pliocene. It was herbivorous, and is thought to have walked on the knuckles of its forelimbs. In these respects, it was like ground sloths, gorillas and giant pandas.
