Adult parathyroid gland, light micrograph. Nodule of oxyphylic cells. Oxyphylic cells have an eosinophilic cytoplasm and a larger size than the chief cells, which can be seen in the upper left corner of the image. These cells are arranged in cords separated by connective tissue spaces abundant with blood capillaries. Large nodules of oxyphylic cells become more abundant as the individual's age increases. Magnification: x180 when printed at 10 centimetres across. | |
