Light micrograph of the cyrtophorid ciliate Trithigmostoma cucullus. Trithigmostoma feeds on Diatoms and other small algae, ingested via an oral basket, partially seen here on the lower right side of the image. Several green food vacuoles are visible inside. The image is focused to the ventral side of the animal to show the cilia row pattern with the basal bodies of the cilia and several mitochondria along the cilia rows. Microscopic contrast technique : Differential interference contrast. Magnification 950x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
