African elephant. Charging African elephant (Loxodonta africana). The elephant is displaying this aggressive behaviour in response to a perceived threat to itself or its herd. Elephants can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h when charging. These are the largest and heaviest land animals,sometimes weighing over 7000 kilograms. They eat grass,bark and leaves,and can consume as much as 225 kilograms of food in a day. African elephants live in large herds throughout eastern and southern Africa.
