Cyclosa spider . Cyclosa spider (Cyclosa sp.) at the centre of its web. The web is spun to catch insects that fly or jump onto its sticky silk fibres. Once an insect is caught, the spider, alerted by its struggles, injects it with venom from its chelicerae (mouthparts). The venom not only paralyses the prey but begins the process of digestion. The spider then wraps its prey in silk, before sucking it dry. Often this spider spins irregular webs and litters them with the debris of caught insects. This helps to camouflage the spider against predators | |
