Cynthia Moth (Samia cynthia) adult. Newly hatched females stay put and using scent she attracts males. Like all silkworm moths they are large, with a wing span of 4 - 5 inches. They were introduced from Asia in 1860 to start a new silk trade; which failed and stock was released. They are a popular, easy species to captive breed and have been crossed with other giant silk worm moths, especially the Samia recini. Duval County,Florida | |
