Eye. Macrophotograph of the anterior (front) part of a sagittal (side view) section through a human eye. The lens (yellow) aids the focussing of light onto the retina (not seen) at the back of the eye. This light enters the eye through the transparent cornea (pale blue bulge at far left). The cornea replaces the sclera (white of the eye) in front of the iris (brown vertical structure at left of the lens). This sclera can be seen forming the outer surface of the eyeball at upper and lower centre. The liquid of the aqueous humour fills the space between the cornea and the lens. The jelly of the vitreous humour fills the eyeball behind the lens. Magnification unknown | |
