Brittle bones. Coloured X-ray of the pelvis and leg bones of a 69-year-old woman with osteogenesis imperfecta. This is a hereditary disease where the bones are brittle and easily fractured. The femurs (red,thigh bones) are seen articulating with the bones of the pelvis (brown). Many healed fractures of the femur shafts and heads are seen (one seen clearly as the bulge in the femur at lower right)
