Wild Orchids of the genus Ophrys occur in Central and South Europa and foremost in the regions around the Mediterranean Sea.There are about 60 different species. They are absolutely unique because of there ingenuity by which they attract insects for pollination. Ophrys species mimic with their flowers various insects like flies,bees etc.and produce furthermore the scent of the respective female insect.The male insects are attracted by these pheromones and try to copulate with the dummy.
