Bacteria in deer feces found in a suburban garden after a documented visit of the deer. This micrograph shows the surface of the feces fixed in a glutaraldehyde solutiion. The undulating intestinal bacteria resemble Campylobacter jejuni and the large (gray) bacteria mey be Escherichia coli. It is not surprising that contamination of field lettuce and spinach with deer feces has made these leafy vegetables unfit for human consumption. Enhanced SEM. Image width: 16 micrometers.
