Ophiocytium algal colony. Light micrograph of a living colony of the freshwater alga Ophiocytium maius. Ophiocytium,a member of the Xanthophyta,is a yellow-green alga. This is because it has yellow carotenoid pigments as well as green chlorophyll. The pigments are located in organelles called chloroplasts.
