Waterbuck. Head of a male waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus). The horns, which only males have, can reach up to 1 metre in length. Waterbucks are large antelopes that are found near to water in the grasslands and savannahs of southeast Africa. They feed mainly on grasses but may take other plants. They live in large home ranges that are shared by many individual females, bachelor herds of non-territorial young males and territorial mature males. The waterbucks often jump into nearby water to escape their predators (mainly lions, hyenas and leopards). Photographed in Luangwa National Park,Zambia,Africa | |
