Male steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) sitting behind a shrub. The steenbok is a small antelope,reaching heights of 60 centimetres to the shoulder and weighing up to 16 kilograms. Only the males have horns. It inhabits the savannahs of eastern and southern Africa,feeding on grasses,shrubs,roots and tubers. The steenbok is normally solitary,except when a mother is with her young or there is a courting pair. It is a territorial animal,with well-defined but overlapping territories,which both sexes defend.
