White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) eating grass. This large herbivore inhabits the grasslands and savannas of southern Sudan and South Africa. It is a solitary animal, feeding mainly on grasses, grazing with its broad lips. The white rhinoceros is fond of wallowing and often covers itself in mud, which allows it to cool off and removes parasites. The horns are believed to have aphrodisiac properties, which has led to extensive hunting, and it now ranks amongst the most endangered species in the world.
