White rhinoceroses. Female white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) with her calf. A female white rhinoceros gives birth to one calf every 3 to 4 years, after a gestation period of around 17 to 18 months. White rhinoceroses live in the savannas and grasslands of southern Sudan and South Africa. As they must drink daily and enjoy wallowing, their ranges always include at least one watering place. The adults feed on grass, using their broad lips to graze. Due to extensive hunting for their valuable horns, white rhinoceroses are now highly endangered.
