Leopard (Panthera pardus) sitting on a branch. This solitary carnivore is almost completely nocturnal, spending its days resting in the branches of trees, which it climbs with great agility. It also waits here in ambush for its prey. After the victim has been caught, the leopard will often drag it up into the tree and devour it there,or store it for future consumption out of the reach of scavengers. P. pardus is found in wooded savannah and forests throughout sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. Photographed in the Mala Mala Game Reserve,South Africa | |
