Gorilla skull. Gorillas (sp. Gorilla gorilla) are the largest of the living primates, and live in the forests of Africa. The teeth are typical of an animal with an omnivorous diet, having both large molars for chewing plants and incisors for cutting flesh. The male skull, shown here, has large canine teeth for attack and defence. The male also has a more pronounced sagittal crest,or bony ridge running from the front to the back of the skull. Gorillas are thought to have diverged from humans in evolutionary terms about 7-10 million years ago | |
