Wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) egg hatching in a nest. A single egg is laid every two years. The parents take turns to incubate it for two months. Once hatched, the chick is fed regurgitated fish by its parents until it becomes independent at around ten months of age. D. exulans has the largest wing span of any bird, reaching over 3 metres when fully grown. It soars for hundreds of kilometres on the winds of the southern oceans.
