Macaroni penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus) in tussac grass. Macaroni penguins are found around the edges of Antarctica and on subantarctic islands. They feed mostly on krill with some squid, fish and crustaceans. They nest in large colonies. Their name refers to the bright plumage on their heads; a macaroni was an 18th-century British dandy who affected continental fashions. Photographed on South Georgia Island | |
