Crab spider. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a crab spider,Misumena vatia. The crab spider has eight eyes (seen as dark circles,upper left). Below the eyes are two large chelicerae (brown) which carry teeth for biting prey. On either side of the chelicerae are the long,segmented,leg-like palps. The spider's hairy legs can be seen at either side of the body. Crab spiders lurk in flowers and move sideways to align themselves with their prey,hence their name. They prey on insects as large as bumblebees. Magnification unknown
