The chameleon spider Thomisus sp.,camouflaged on the broom flower Spartium junceum. The chameleon (or crab) spider,as its name suggests,can change colour to match its surroundings. Here,Thomisus mimics the yellow petal shades of colour of the Spanish broom flower. This spider does not build a web,but lies in wait for pollinating insects. Its crab-like waiting posture blends in with the shape of the flower. If a bee visits the flower,Thomisus will avoid the sting of the bee by attacking the insect's head with a poisonous bite. Near the mouthparts of the spider a number of simple black eyes can be seen
