The chameleon spider Thomisus preying on a bee. As its name suggests, the chameleon spider can change colour to match its surroundings. Here,Thomisus mimics the lighter shade of colour of the yellow petals. This spider does not build a web,but lies in wait for pollinating insects. The prey,in this case a bee,had already visited many flowers and collected pollen in the basket on its hindleg, before being captured. Thomisus avoids the sting of the bee by attacking and neutralising the insect's head with a poisonous bite | |
