Fly. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a fly. The head is dominated by two large compound eyes (red). The mouthparts (lower centre) are below the eyes,and the two antennae (sensory structures) are between the eyes. There is a parasitic mite (orange) on this fly's head (to the left of the eye at upper right). This is a March fly (family Bibionidae). Mites (order Acarina) are related to spiders,and are found on a wide variety of insects,plants and animals
