Great green bush-cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) sitting on a branch. This cricket is native to Europe and North Africa. It is the largest cricket found on the British Isles,measuring 46 millimetres in length. It inhabits grassland and scrub and is also found in coastal regions of the south of England. The adult is omnivorous,but mostly eats other insects. The great green bush- cricket has large and powerful rear legs,which it uses to jump away from predators. The male can produce a very loud call,that can be heard tens of metres away,by rubbing its wings together. The call is used to attract females and to warn off other males
