Paramecium protozoa. Artwork of four Paramecium sp. protozoa. Paramecium is a single-celled animal that inhabits fresh water. Its cell is covered in cilia (hairs),which it beats to propel itself through the water. It also uses its cilia to waft its prey towards its mouth. It feeds mainly on bacteria and smaller protozoa. Once ingested, the food is passed to a vacuole (small orange spheres) for digestion. There are several different species of Paramecium, which range in length from about 0.1 to 0.3 millimetres | |
