| Tetrahymena protozoa. Immunofluorescent light micrograph of two Tetrahymena thermophila protozoa (single-celled animals). Nuclei are blue and cell walls and cilia (hairs) are green. T. thermophila is a ciliate,having numerous fine cilia on its cell wall. It has a large macronucleus and several small micronuclei. Protozoa such as this are being used in biotechnology research at Axiva (part of Aventis) in Frankfurt,Germany.
