DNA security marking. Conceptual image of strands of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in a liquid droplet above a diamond. The liquid holds the CypherMark DNA security marking system. This system is used to uncounterfeitably mark both liquids and solid surfaces through the application of unique DNA sequences attached to microscopic beads. In this case the beads will lodge in the diamond's surface cavities and their presence can then be detected under a microscope. Analysis of the DNA code will allow the diamond to be identified, protecting against theft. CypherMark beads can also be used in sprays to mark criminals.
