| Fire extinguisher and smoke alarm. The pressurized cylinder (left) contains a dry chemical powder for use in fighting a fire. Unlike a water-containing fire extinguisher,this one may be safely used on an electrical fire as well as on flammable liquids & gases and paper & fabric. The blue background to the word "powder" is used due to a previous British colour-coding standard,although all types of fire extinguishers in the European Union are now red. The smoke alarm (right) is an ionisation type,which detects small particles of smoke in the air.
