MODEL RELEASED. Aeroplane engine maintenance. Rear view of a Rolls Royce RB211 engine, which is used to power jumbo jet aircraft such as the Boeing 747. This is a turbofan engine in which hot air turns turbine blades (inner circle) to power a fan that draws air in to provide thrust for the aircraft. Surrounding the turbine blades is a mixer shroud (convoluted),which allows efficient mixing of the hot exhaust air from the turbines with slower and cooler bypass air. This increases engine efficiency and reduces noise. The Rolls Royce RB211 engine was developed during the 1960s | |
