Digital Compact Cassette. DCC is a new type of audio tape which records data in digital form. The recording and playback heads in a DCC player are made in layers on a single silicon chip. Digital data are compressed before recording, using a technique called Precision Adaptive Sub-band Coding (PASC). The sound is split into 32 frequency bands which are coded separately. Bands with no signal,or bands in which the signal is masked by a louder sound, are not recorded - reducing the demand on data to about one quarter of that used by a conventional digital compact disc. DCC players are expected to be compatible with current analogue tape cassettes | |
