| Solar water heaters on the roof of a building. Each heater comprises two rectangular flat plate collectors and a cylindrical water storage tank. Inside the collectors are a series of small tubes that pass over a black absorber plate. This absorbs sunlight and warms water passing through the tubes. The heated water rises to the storage tanks by convection,and cooler water sinks down into the collector. This system is known as a thermosiphon solar water heater. It harnesses the renewable energy of the sun,is relatively cheap to install and maintain,and produces no waste products.
