MODEL RELEASED. Miscanthus biofuel field. Young boy looking up at dry Miscanthus x giganteus grass, which is being grown for use as an energy source. Miscanthus (sometimes called elephant grass or E-grass) can either be burnt directly in electricity-generating power stations,or can be used to produce ethanol for fuel use. It is a promising crop for this purpose as it is low maintenance, has a low moisture and mineral content and provides a high yield each year. As a biofuel,it is renewable and is essentially carbon neutral,as the carbon it releases during combustion was taken from the atmosphere during its growth.
