Solar eclipse. Composite image of the solar eclipse of 10th June 2002. The Sun is seen setting from top left to centre. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun,casting its shadow onto the Earth. This was an annular eclipse. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is far from Earth in its orbit, and thus appears smaller in the sky. Due to this,it does not completely block out the Sun,instead leaving a ring (annulus) visible around the edge of the Moon. Photographed from Palos Verdes,California,USA | |
