| Aurorae of Jupiter. Coloured X-ray image of the aurorae (bright pink/white) at the poles of Jupiter. These aurorae are the equivalent of the "northern lights" (aurora borealis) and "southern lights" (aurora australis) on Earth. They are thought to be caused by charged particles from the sun interacting with oxygen and sulphur ions in Jupiter's atmosphere.
