The green/yellow structures surrounding the nucleus (purple/pink) are microtubules,part of the cell's cytoskeleton. Along with actin filaments,microtubules separate the chromosomes during mitosis. HeLa cells are a continuously cultured cell line of human cancer cells that are widely used in biological and medical research. They are immortal and so thrive in the laboratory.
